Sarah Michelle Gellar is back, but she is no longer kicking vampire bottoms. Instead, get a double dose of the blonde beauty as she takes on the duo lead roles of identical twin sisters caught in a dark, sexy and suspenseful entanglement of deceit and vengeance.
Premiering 15 March, airing on Thursdays at 10.55pm first and exclusively on AXN Beyond, the brand new thriller drama series Ringer marks the return of Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Grudge) to TV since starring in the iconic teen supernatural drama series Buffy the Vampire Slayer which concluded in 2003.
In the intense and intrigue-filled Ringer, the svelte American actress plays Bridget Kelly, a recovering drug addict and former exotic dancer. Just as her life is getting back on track, Bridget witnesses a professional hit and is placed under witness protection of FBI agent Victor Machado (Nestor Carbonell, Lost). Fearing she is not safe from the mob, Bridget flees without even telling her close friend and Narcotics Anonymous sponsor Malcolm Ward (Mike Colter, The Good Wife).
Contacting her estranged identical twin sister Siobhan Martin, also played by Gellar, Bridget reunites with her for the first time in six years in New York City. Fabulously wealthy, Siobhan is married to the strikingly handsome and self-made millionaire investor Andrew Martin, played by Ioan Gruffudd (The Fantastic Four), and he has no idea that Bridget exists. When Siobhan disappears, seemingly having taken her own life at sea, Bridget makes the split second decision to assume her sister's identity.
Bridget discovers that Siobhan lives a fantasy-like life of luxury, but nothing is what they appear to be. Andrew and Siobhan's picture-perfect relationship is icy and broken. Even Andrew's troubled teenage daughter, Juliet (Zoey Deutsch, The Suite Life on Deck), resents her stepmother and blames her for the strained relationship she has with her father.
Plunged into her twin sister's glamorous world, Bridget tries to keep up her façade and uncovers Siobhan's dark secrets. She meets Siobhan's best friend Gemma (Tara Summers, Boston Legal), a successful architect and interior designer, only to be horrified that Siobhan has been having an affair with Gemma's husband, Henry (Kristoffer Polaha, Life Unexpected). A struggling writer, Henry is in love with Siobhan and is hurt and confused by her sudden personality change.
Although Bridget goes to great lengths to leave her past behind, agent Machado is not giving up the chase as she is the key witness to his murder investigation. And when an attempt is made on her life, Bridget discovers that living as Siobhan is no less dangerous than the old life she is trying to escape…
As the many twists and turns keep viewers riveted to the fast-paced and intricate neo noir series, fans will be captivated by Sarah Michelle Gellar's multi-faceted portrayal of the sisters in Ringer - from the regret-filled but hopeful fugitive Bridget, to the polished yet bitter Siobhan who has revenge on her mind, and Bridget impersonating Siobhan. American national daily 'USA Today' praised her for "two very good, well-defined Gellar performances", while Hollywood news authority 'E! Entertainment' called Gellar "awesome" and "fantastic" in her roles.
Gellar confessed that her return to TV was motivated by her "missing" the work she used to do. Noting that there are many "amazing roles" for women on TV now, Gellar also shared that TV work enables her to stay home and be with her two year old daughter. In addition to starring, Gellar is an executive producer of Ringer which was co-created by Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, writers of Supernatural, with CSI: New York showrunner Pam Veasey also executive producing.
Taking on twice the challenge, Sarah Michelle Gellar is poised for her highly anticipated return to television in a gripping thriller that doubles your fix of mystery as well as the star we've all missed in Ringer, starting this March only on AXN Beyond.
