“LIFE OF PI’S” NEWBIE THESPIAN SURAJ SHARMA NOMINATED IN 18TH CRITICS’ CHOICE MOVIE AWARDS

From Oscar winning filmmaker Ang Lee comes "Life of Pi," a breathtakingly beautiful story of a boy named Pi played by newcomer Suraj Sharma who is lost at sea with a Bengal tiger, following the loss of his family in a shipwreck .

Suraj Sharma who hails from India never expected a "Life of Pi" when he accompanied his brother to the movie's casting call.  Born and raised in Delhi, India and raised by mathematician parents, it seemed that from more than 3,000 hopefuls who auditioned for the role, Suraj was destined to play the role of Pi, a mathematical constant transcendental number.

He has recently been nominated in the upcoming Critics' Choice Movie Awards for Best Young Actor for his role in "Life of Pi" along with other actors/actresses such as Elle Fanning ("Ginger & Rosa") and Logan Lerman ("Perks of Being a Wallflower").
The story revolves around Pi, a delightfully enthusiastic teenager who lives with his zoo-keeping family in Pondicherry, India. Inquisitive and intelligent, he explores different cultures and spiritual traditions. Pi has open-minded parents who allow him to become a free thinker, finding his own path. Due to a worsening economic climate, Pi's parents decide to emigrate to start a new life in Canada. But the ship sinks.  Eventually only Pi and the tiger are left alive on the lifeboat and the unlikely pair embarks on an Odyssey that is fraught with danger.  On the precarious lifeboat he shares with the tiger, Pi finds inner strength and becomes aware that some kind of higher power is in charge of his destiny.

The heightened emotional connections presented in the movie required exceptional performances from its cast, none more so than the neophyte thespian who would take on the titular hero.   "We searched for a young man who had the innocence to capture our attention, the depth of character to break our hearts, and the physicality needed to embody Pi on his journey," says director Ang Lee. "During his audition, Suraj filled the room with emotion, much of which he conveyed simply through his eyes. His natural ability to believe and stay in the world of the story is a rare treasure.

"Suraj's investment in the story made us really believe that whatever challenges we faced, the film was really going to happen," adds the director.  "When we saw Suraj, we saw the movie.  Mr. Lee marvels at Suraj's innocence and efforts, noting, "We are all experienced and perhaps a little jaded.  Suraj reminded us why we want to make movies.  Every day was a miracle."

For Suraj Sharma, the experience of landing the starring role was surreal. "It was all so new for me," says Suraj. "I had never been out of India. I didn't know how to act or swim. I learned how to swim and now it's my favorite thing to do.  Shooting the film in Taiwan and meeting people from all over the world in the crew was fantastic. You get an idea of how diverse the world is. I was really inspired by everything I saw and everyone I got to know.  I wanted to give it everything I had."

Sharma also went through rigorous workouts to increase his stamina, which gave him an inner discipline and strength that enabled him to empathize with the character. "What defines Pi is his never-ending will to survive, he has a belief in the world and I think that's what sets him apart from everyone else. He survives by instinct. But he also possessed a strong sprit from the beginning, right from being a child. But Pi kept that innocence inside him and with innocence comes belief."
"Life of Pi" opens January 9 in 3D and 2D theaters nationwide from 20th Century Fox thru Warner Bros.

“@ANCALERTS” ANCHOR LEXI SCHULZE: FROM LIFESTYLE TO SOCIAL MEDIA

For "@ANCALERTS" anchor Lexi Schulze, transitioning from lifestyle show hosting to newscasting is like adapting to the fast-changing nature of social media.

"At first I wasn't sure what to expect. Social media is moving fast, so you have just have to go with the tide of it. You can't slow down so much but you also want to go at your own pace. So that's what I'm trying to do," she said.

Lexi is the anchor of the country's first social TV newscast "@ANCALERTS" launched last June after reporting mostly on lifestyle trends in "Cityscape" both on ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel.

"Before, I would talk about food, a spa, or a new place to vacation at. Now it's a war or the Reproductive Health Bill and things that are actually happening. Now my orientation is a little more serious," she revealed.

But aside from reporting heavy news or trends online, she also finds a combination of news and lifestyle where people search for the good things.

"People always look to the positive side, whether it be Manny Pacquiao congratulating Marquez for the win, or a certain feel good story about a cat being rescued," she said.

Lexi is also aware of the potential dangers of the Internet for her seven-year old daughter. An admittedly very strict mom, she said she controls her daughter's exposure to social media because "it's like the new soiree."

"There's just too much out there and they are sponges. I'm thinking online exposure should be along the lines of teens. Every mom has a different opinion. A lot of my friends and their kids are on Facebook and they have personal accounts. But I'm sure they are monitored," she said.

Just like other celebrities, Lexi is also no stranger to online criticism, and even bashing.

"I like the fact that it gives you a reality check because not everyone out there likes you. I read comments about me, but I'm not the type who likes to lash back. There are some celebrities who like to feed these trolls by answering, so the problem becomes bigger," she said.

Keep updated with the hottest social media updates and trends by watching "@ANCALERTS," anchored by Lexi Schulze and TJ Manotoc on ANC (SkyCable Channel 27) weekdays at 4:30 p.m., follow @ANCALERTS on Twitter, or like ANC 24/7 on Facebook.

‘Sosy Problems’: Comedy to the ‘sosiest’ level

Beginning today, Christmas Day, GMA Films will make moviegoers experience a holiday treat to the 'sosiest' level with "Sosy Problems," its official entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The movie, which stars four of GMA Network's hottest leading ladies: Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heussaff, Bianca King and Rhian Ramos with Kapuso hunk actor Aljur Abrenica, is set to deliver a different kind of comedy: one that is light and "sosy."

"Sosy Problems" is anything but slapstick comedy, although one could dub it as 'lipstick comedy' in that aside from titillating the funny bones of fans of comedy films, it will surely whet the appetite of movie viewers who are interested in high life fashion.

The movie tells about four rich, famous and gorgeous ladies who have one major problem: their favorite hangout place, The Polo Club, is in danger of being demolished and its owners are planning to build a not-so-sosy mall in its place.  The ladies will join forces and combine their resources in order to bring the demolition to a halt.  They will risk everything – even their poise and composure – to send their message across.

Directed by Andoy Ranay, "Sosy Problems" will open today, December 25, in nationwide theatres.

Follow "Sosy Problems" on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/sosyproblems) and on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/sosyproblems).

Derrick Monasterio, Jake Vargas star as Mr. Pogi winners in"Magpakailanman" this Saturday

This Saturday, GMA's reality-based drama anthology program hosted by Ms. Mel Tiangco, "Magpakailanman," will feature the lives of Jaylord Casino and John Edric Ulang, winners of Eat Bulaga's "Mr. Pogi" contest.

Just like most aspirants who want to enter show business, Jaylord and John Edric have always dreamed of becoming popular stars one day and they saw showbiz as a way out of poverty.

Although they both reached the same juncture in their journey, they came from very different worlds.

Jaylord was never an achiever in school.  Despite the efforts exerted by his parents to give him a good education, he just couldn't meet their expectations.  He grew up feeling the burden of being his parents' biggest disappointment but he figured that there must be something special about him that could make his parents proud.  One day, a friend approached him and encouraged him to audition for "Mr. Pogi," a competition for male wanna-be TV stars hosted by the longest running noontime show, "Eat Bulaga."

Jaylord was confident that he has got the looks, charm and talent to win the title.  However, his parents are not as optimistic.  Besides, this is not how they have envisioned their son to succeed in life.

Meanwhile, family is not a problem for another Mr. Pogi winner John Edric. From the very beginning he has always shown the makings of a star and his parents, especially his dad, have always been supportive of his plans. Unfortunately, John Edric's ambition of entering show business came to a halt when he unexpectedly impregnated his girlfriend, Michelle.

Consequently, John Edric's focus shifted from pursuing his dream career to providing for his own family.  He thought he would never catch up on his dream until the opportunity to audition for "Mr. Pogi" came one day.  He grabbed the chance and the rest is history, so to speak.

Join veteran journalist Ms. Mel Tiangco as she unravels these two inspiring stories of triumph with Kapuso teen star Derrick Monasterio and Jake Vargas portraying as Jaylord and John Edric this Saturday in "Magpakailanman," airing after Kap's Amazing Stories on GMA-7.

ABS-CBN Publishing’s ‘Vault’ wins Asia’s Best New Magazine

ABS-CBN Publishing's Vault, a lifestyle magazine for the modern, sophisticated man, was named winner of Best New Magazine at the 2012 Asian Publishing Awards (APA), held recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It also received an excellence award in the category Best in Design, Layout and Presentation.

The Asian Publishing Awards recognizes best multimedia practices in magazine, book, and corporate communications sectors. This year, the APA winners were culled from a strong field of 157 entries involving 34 media companies from 8 countries.

At the ceremony, Vault  was cited for "addressing a clearly defined target of upscale, high net worth Filipino males. The publishers have identified a gap and created a fresh looking format."

"We operate in a very crowded media landscape where it is getting more and more challenging to engage multitasking readers. This is why we are very proud of Vault magazine's achievements since it launched last year. This recognition reaffirms our belief that great content, innovation and the unyielding commitment to fulfill the needs of our readers will make the difference in today's busy marketplace.  Vault, the new player- the rookie brand, made a difference.  For an organization that takes pride in building successful homegrown brands amidst so many local and foreign players, this is a remarkable feat," said Christina Lopez, Content Director and Head of Marketing for ABS-CBN Publishing, in her acceptance remarks.

Anticipating the rapid growth in viewing magazines online, ABS-CBN Publishing simultaneously launched the magazine's print and digital edition in May 2011, a first in the local publishing industry. Vault's editorial team is led by broadcast journalist and host David Celdran as Editor in Chief, with Karl FM Castro as Art Director.

Celdran saw Vault's win as a "nice surprise."

"Indeed, Asia is experiencing the most dynamic growth in publishing in the world. To be chosen as the best new magazine in this highly competitive region can only be seen as an honor not just for ABS-CBN, but for the Philippine publishing industry as well," he added.

Since its release in 2011, it has developed a strong following among its niche audience.

It builds around in-depth content on global luxury brands, unique experiences, and fine products that represent the best achievements of the human hand. Its approach to luxury is informed by creativity, craftsmanship, passion, and heritage.

Seeing the award as an inspiration for the magazine and its staff, Celdran said, "Vault will continue to stick to its core identity: a visually driven and highly informative magazine for readers with refined tastes.  But the award reminds us that our appeal is global as well. In the coming issues, expect even more international content as we continue to cover the most exclusive experiences and premium products around the globe."

Vault is available in good bookshops nationwide. The digital edition is available on Zinio.com and through the iTunes App Store.

ONLY IN CINEMAS STARTING JANUARY 9: VISUALLY STUNNING “LIFE OF PI”

From 20th Century Fox, the studio behind "Titanic" and "Avatar" comes an epic motion picture that will allow audience to experience the grand spectacle of nature and gasp at a young boy's coming of age through disaster and salvation in "Life of Pi" directed by Academy Award winner Ang Lee.

Based on the book by Yann Martel that has sold more than seven million copies and spent years on the bestseller lists, "Life of Pi" takes place over three continents, two oceans and a wide universe of imagination.  Lee's vision, coupled with stunning 3D visuals, has turned a novel long thought un-filmable into a thrillingly audacious mix of grand storytelling and powerful and provocative themes.

"Life of Pi" is Ang Lee's first foray in 3D filmmaking starring newcomer Suraj Sharma who takes on the titular role of Pi.  The story revolves around Piscine Patel, (known as Pi) who lives with his zoo keeping family in Pondicherry. They decide to emigrate to Canada, taking their animals along with them and set off on a huge freighter ship, steaming from India across the Pacific. But a terrible storm destroys the ship. The family and most of the animals perish. Pi survives, stranded on a lifeboat with several animals. Ultimately it is just Pi and a Bengal tiger who miraculously survive 227 days at sea.

The two castaways face unimaginable challenges, including nature's majestic grandeur and fury, which lash their small lifeboat.  One particularly monstrous storm becomes a spiritual experience for Pi, leading him to question God's plan for him.  "I've lost everything!  I surrender!  What more do you want?" Pi rails at the sky. But through it all, he never loses hope.  Pi finds joy from something as simple as an old survival manual, as well as from the solace of the ocean's beauty: the bioluminescent, rainbow hues of magnificent schools of flying fish; the shimmering blues of the ocean's swells; and a radiant humpback whale that streaks to the surface of the ocean.

In telling Pi's story, Mr. Lee pushes the boundaries of cutting-edge motion picture technologies.  "Life of Pi" represents a moment when the science and art of filmmaking have jumped forward, as it did with the visual effects of "Titanic," the 3D revolution of "Avatar," and the CGI work in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which brought unprecedented emotion and depth to the character of Caesar.  And like Caesar, LIFE OF PI's Richard Parker is a fully-realized, accessible character, whom you'll believe was actually on that lifeboat with Suraj Sharma, who portrays Pi.

The attention to detail throughout LIFE OF PI is also impressive.  Production designer David Gropman based Pi's lifeboat "on archival drawings of a 1940s steel life boat". He commissioned Haan Lee (Ang Lee's son) to design Pi's raft, that the character builds to separate himself from Richard Parker. "I asked Haan to imagine himself as Pi, using the materials he would have had on the lifeboat: oars, life jackets, floorboards, etc.  What Hann crafted was amazing, a triangle with a circle in the middle, which was a beautiful expression of 'pi'."

And through Mr. Lee's use of 3D, the audience will be with Pi and Richard Parker, experiencing these extraordinary and visually stunning moments, immersed like never before in an epic movie adventure interwoven with an emotional and spiritual journey.

"Life of Pi" opens January 9 in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

WALT DISNEY'S ANIMATED EPIC ADVENTURE “FROZEN” IN CINEMAS 2013

Walt Disney Animation Studios presents an epic tale of adventure and comedy in "Frozen," a computer-animated feature film slated for the big screen on November 27, 2013.

Directed by Chris Buck ("Tarzan," "Surf's Up") & Jennifer Lee (screenwriter of "Wreck-It Ralph") and produced by Peter Del Vecho ("Winnie the Pooh," "The Princess and the Frog"), "Frozen" features the vocal talents of film/TV/stage star Kristen Bell as Anna, a young dreamer about to take the adventure of a lifetime, and Tony Award ®-winning actress Idina Menzel as Elsa the Snow Queen. The movie will feature original songs by Broadway greats Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

In "Frozen," a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

Bell has starred in a variety of films, including the comedies "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Couples Retreat," and the upcoming films "Hit & Run," "Some Girls" and the Farrelly Brothers' "Movie 43." On the small screen, Bell is currently starring in the Showtime series "House of Lies" alongside Don Cheadle; she has also starred in "Heroes" and "Veronica Mars." Broadway credits include "The Crucible" and "Tom Sawyer."

Menzel, who won a Tony Award® as Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Elphaba in Broadway's "Wicked" (2004), landed her first role on Broadway in 1995 in the Tony Award-winning musical "Rent." Film credits include "Enchanted" and the feature film "Rent." GMA Network introduces teen idols via its newest youth program TEEN GEN; brings back the tandem of Bobby and Angelu

After several months of its intensive search for the next batch of TV sensations, GMA Network finally comes up with the coveted list of promising faces that will banner the upcoming youth-oriented series, TEEN GEN.

Fresh from winning in Protégé, Jeric Gonzales and Thea Tolentino land their first project in the Kapuso Station as they lead the promising cast of Teen Gen. They will portray the roles of Tiago and Angge in the series, respectively.

On being part of the much anticipated project, Jeric shares "Ito na ang umpisa ng aking mga pangarap kaya excited ako sa project na ito. Nakaka-pressure kaya kailangan naming galingan at patunayan na karapat-dapat kami for the show"

Meanwhile, Thea expresses her gratitude as she embarks on her first project. "Sobrang happyko po. God has been so good to me and I will give all my best sa Teen Gen."

Also, TEEN GEN brings back the kilig tandem of Bobby Andrews and Angelu de Leon as they once again breathe to life to the characters from the phenomenal T.G.I.S series Wacks and Peachy.

Completing the cast of TEEN GEN are - Juancho Trivino as Lucho, Dianne Hernandez as Lyca, Abel Estanislao as JV, Gianna Revilla as Madison, Seth Isay as Itos, Sunyee Maluche as Drew, Gab de Leon as Jeff and Arkin Magalona as Mackenzie.

TEEN GEN is under the helm of film and TV director Mark Reyes, the man behind the very successful youth series in the 90's produced by GMA and Viva, T.G.I.S., together with Kit Villanueva - Langit as creative consultant/headwriter.

Direk Mark looks back to the happy memories of creating the unparalleled youth program which also launched the careers of today's respected actors in the industry.

As he puts it, "18 years ago, I was given the opportunity to create a youth oriented show for a Saturday afternoon which had a non-existent audience market. With the courage of ignorance, we broke the norms of Philippine TV by doing a light drama-comedy, which was unheard of in the traditional soap dominated  1990's. We got an inspiration from the fast rising MTV channel in terms of visual treatment and fashion styles. Our 1st season was shaky. T.G.I.S. was branded too "bourgeois" or too upper class for the masa market. But come the 2nd season, it skyrocketed to the TV phenomenon that it was, prompting the rival network to copy our format after a year. Now, with much excitement and bravado from experience, the original director and writer bring back T.G.I.S as TEEN GEN. Expect a new generation of young stars and T.G.I.S. alumni Bobby and Angelu to bring back youthful family entertainment for both young and not so young who are now parents to teenagers."

Witness the highs and lows of teenage life as TEEN GEN premieres on December 16 after Party Pilipinas on GMA.

For Americans, Turkeys are a staple in every Thanksgiving celebration, but for Filipinos it's perfect for Christmas.

In the story, Vice portray the role of Bernice, a super successful 'lord of the apparels industry' who is determined to bring misery to two of his closest competition--her hardworking half-sister Detty (AiAi) whose family refused to help Bernice's family when they were poor, and Roselle (Kris) the equally brilliant and talented yet eccentric business archnemesis.

In her quest to secure her throne as the queen of her industry, although it's against her will, Bernice will be forced to hire Detty as his 75th assistant. But things get out of hand and the world gets crazier when Detty suddenly becomes an employee--of all people--Roselle!

With the rivalry getting tougher and more intense than ever and severely affecting each other's intertwined lives, who among Bernice, Detty and Roselle will emerge victorious?

Meanwhile, after their sensational success in "Princess and I" and their first big screen team-up in "24/7 In Love" which is still showing on cinemas nationwide, two of the country's hottest teen stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla are now also part of "Sisterakas." In the film, Daniel will portray the role of Angelo, the godson of Bernice, while Kathryn will play as Kathy, the daughter of Detty and big sister of Cindy (Xyriel Manabat).

SAM MILBY AND POKWANG SEARCH FOR THEIR HEART’S DESIRES IN “24/7 IN LOVE”

What is a 40-year-old virgin supposed to do when she finds out her fiancé has been cheating on her? Well, find a new man who she can trust and love of course! But this isn't an easy task so who better to help her than her bff, who's gay and full of bright ideas?

Sam Milby and Pokwang bring to life the comic story of Charles and Virgie in Star Cinema's offering in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Magic, "24/7 In Love." All three are excited in their first Star Magic collaboration and they say their episode has a lot of firsts. "It has a lot of firsts I think, this is my first time doing a movie with Pokwang. Hindi naman first time na katrabaho ko siya, we did a 'Your Song' a long time ago but it's my first time being paired with her in a movie. Our story, yung story namin ni Pokwang very comedy talaga," Sam shares. "I know it was Pokwang's first time,  ako yung first kissing scene niya ever in a movie, so she's a virgin in the movie and she's a virgin in terms of kissing scene, so I'm happy that I was the first, hahaha!"

On the other hand, John Lapus, who's also part of the episode's cast, reveals that he jumped at the chance to work with the other Star Magic artists as this is a rare opportunity. "Hindi nako tumanggi, siyempre no, bilang bibihira na pagsama-samahin kaming mga Star Magic artists sa ganito kalaki na project. Sana at least once a year, merong Star Magic movie tulad nitong '24/ 7 In Love' kasi masaya na magkakasama kami and maski rin sa mga fans, 'di ba ang bongga na nakikita nilang magkakasama kami sa isang big screen, nandun kami and of course sa premiere night makikita nila kaming lahat dun."

Both Sam and John agree that "24/7 In Love" has a lot of lessons for the heart, which audiences from all ages can relate to. "I would say some of the most beautiful things in life come out in the most unexpected times," Sam admits. "Sa movie, marerealize mo na, one, age doesn't matter and two, walang pinipiling tao ang pag ibig kahit gwapo, hindi maganda, mayaman, mahirap. Kapag ang puso tinamaan ka talaga maiinlove ka talaga, kahit 24/7 pa," John adds.

Sam and Pokie's episode is directed by Frasco Mortiz. Learn about the highs and lows of love in "24/7 In Love" coming to cinemas nationwide on November 21 (Wednesday).

ESTEEMED PRODUCER TURNS DIRECTOR FOR “TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE”

"'Trouble with the Curve' is a story about how we deal with what life throws at us," describes Robert Lorenz ("Million Dollar Baby," "Mystic River"), Clint Eastwood's long-time producer who is now making his feature film directorial debut with the sports drama.

"It has characters in whom we can all see a bit of ourselves, reaching those moments in life when we are faced with re-evaluating priorities: the importance we put on our careers, our friendships and our family," Lorenz adds.

At the center of the story are a father and daughter whose lives have taken them in opposite directions. Even when they're together, they are worlds apart. But now, circumstances are forcing them to face their differences on common ground.

"In any family, even when things get tough, there are always ties that connect you," says the film's star and producer Clint Eastwood. "You just have to find a starting point to begin to close the gap."

The former assistant director, who segued into producing Eastwood's movies, says he always intended to direct. "It was just a matter of finding the right project at the right time," Lorenz states. "I felt the story had broad appeal, a lot of humor, with really great characters and interesting relationships, and I could easily visualize what I would do with it as I read it. The fact that it had a great role for Clint and he was interested in playing it was way more than I could have hoped for."

"Rob and I have worked together for almost 20 years now," Eastwood says. "We've talked about him directing over the years, so when he showed me this script, I thought it was a perfect opportunity. I had no doubt he'd do a terrific job, and he absolutely did."
Eastwood plays Gus Lobel, a man nearing the end of a long career who is too proud, or too stubborn, to reveal the secret that his eyes are no longer as sharp as his instincts. And while those closest to him aren't exactly sure what's wrong, they know that something is—something that, for his daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), is worth dropping everything for. Even if she's going to have to fight him every step of the way.

Lorenz adds, "In any other relationship, Mickey showing up to help, even if it's unexpected, would be a good thing. But Gus just can't see it that way."

Amy Adams says that there's universality to Mickey's feelings about her dad. "Daughters always want the approval of their fathers. So, naturally, Mickey wants Gus's attention; she wants him to be proud of her, but he, like many dads, has a hard time conveying that. Over time, she's built up a wall and things between them have become contentious, to say the least."
"These characters all come together at a time of significant change for each of them," Lorenz says. "They are all on a journey and have to discover something about themselves in order to move beyond the place they are in their lives and onto the next thing, whatever that may be."

Opening across the Philippines on Nov. 28, "Trouble with the Curve" is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

BEA ALONZO AND ZANJOE MARUDO, FROM FRIENDS TO LOVERS IN “24/7 IN LOVE”

Although real-life lovers Bea Alonzo and Zanjoe Marudo swore they won't work with each other in a project, both couldn't say no to the roles of Belle and Butch, respectively, in Star Cinema's offering in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Magic, "24/7 In Love."

"Siyempre umoo ako kaagad agad kasi star magic yuh  eh. Siyempre wala ka naman ibang gagawin kundi mag support sa pamilya mo 'di ba? So walang pagdadalawang isip akong umoo." Bea shared regarding her role in the talent management's first venture into producing a full-length film. "Na-excite ako na magiging part ako ng selebrasyon ng Star Magic. Nung pinresent na sakin istorya, iba iba ang naramdaman ko eh. Tapos natawa ako," Zanjoe added.

What made the project very interesting yet funny for Bea and Zanjoe is that they will be playing odd couple, Belle and Butch. Belle falls for her best friend Butch, but the problem is Butch is in love with …another man. "Ngayon lang ako nagportray ng role na ganito ka-persistent, ganito ka obsessed sa isang character din, at saka first time ko magkaroon ng character na nainlove sa isang becky!" Bea said as she laughingly described what becoming Belle was like.

Zanjoe on the other hand, had doubts in playing the fashion saavy Butch. "Mas magaling siguro kung gumawa ng role eh totoong gay 'di ba? Haha! pero siyempre nakaka-proud din na yung mga tao may tiwala sa 'yo. Unang-una, ako kaya din lumakas loob ko para gawin yun dahil may mga tao na naniniwala sa kakayahan ko."

Though Bea felt weird at first working with Zanjoe for the first time since they became an item, his gay character made her more at ease than having him play a more serious role. "It was weird acting with him, buti na lang malaking difference yung character niya sa totoong buhay, kasi kung hindi siguro I'd be feeling more awkward than how I'm feeling now." And Zanjoe agreed that it was indeed a challenge but fun working with his girlfriend. "Nakatulong kasi yung role ko medyo iba at least mas magiging komportable ako na gawin 'yun sa harapan niya dahil alam ko naman na hindi niya ako ija-judge at tutulungan niya pa ko, pwede ako humingi ng mga tips. Ayun ang saya nung shooting namin kasi si Bea yung katrabaho ko, mas komportable ako, na inaakala ko dati na mahirap umarte sa harapan niya."

Bea and Zanjoe's episode is directed by Mae Cruz and will be shown on November 21 in theatres nationwide.

FIRST IMAGE OF TOM CRUISE FOR “ALL YOU NEED IS KILL” ARRIVES

The first photo of Tom Cruise as Lt. Col. Bill Cage in the upcoming epic sci-fi thriller "All You Need is Kill" has been released by Warner Bros.

Also starring Emily Blunt, the film is currently being directed by Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity").

"All You Need is Kill" unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world's armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.
Opening across the Philippines on March 2014, "All You Need is Kill" will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

WHO’S WHO IN “FINDING NEMO” 3D

Optimistic but forgetful friend Dory joins him on the adventure, which introduces the sheltered Marlin to everything from a trio of sharks practicing a self-help program to a bale of hip sea turtles who know their way around the East Australian Current.

These iconic characters and the roster of talented actors that helped make them so memorable are what make Disney Pixar's "Finding Nemo" a favorite among moviegoers. The film returns to the big screen—for the first time ever in thrilling Disney Digital 3D™—introducing a whole new generation to the stunning underwater adventure.

MARLIN is a fretful and slightly neurotic clownfish father voiced by the acclaimed actor/director/comedian Albert Brooks ("Drive"). He sports just three stripes ("One, two, three—that's all I have?") and for a clownfish, he's not as funny as one might expect. But he's fiercely protective of his son Nemo, wanting to do everything he can to make sure nothing ever happens to him.

Director Andrew Stanton said Brooks was a pro at maximizing his scenes. "Even when his character wasn't asked to be funny in a scene, he knew exactly how to play it for entertainment."

DORY is the eternally optimistic and forever forgetful blue tang brought to life by the Emmy®-winning comedian Ellen DeGeneres who was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance. "She brought a real kindness and gentleness to the part, along with rhythm and quirkiness," said Stanton of DeGeneres' performance.

NEMO is an adventurous young clownfish born with a bad fin, though his overly protective father calls it his "lucky fin." After being captured by a diver and dropped in an aquarium, Nemo meets an oddball tank gang who dub him "Shark Bait" and help him hatch a plan to escape back to the ocean to reunite with his dad.

Alexander Gould ("Weeds") was 9 years old when he lent his voice to Nemo, and he "brought a genuine, untainted quality to the voice of Nemo," said Stanton. "It's amazing how many kids have some preconceived notion of what a good actor should sound like. Alex sounded real and he totally understood direction. We were really lucky to find him."

GILL is the brooding moorish idol leader of the tank gang who takes newcomer Nemo under his fin. Willem Dafoe ("Platoon") gave voice to Gill, who—like Nemo—hails from the big blue. He'd give anything to go home.
BLOAT is a blowfish with a tendency for emotional as well as literal blow-ups. Voiced by Emmy® winner Brad Garrett ("Everybody Loves Raymond"), Bloat conducts the tribal ceremony officially dubbing Nemo as "Shark Bait" and welcoming him into the tank gang.
PEACH is an astute starfish who has her eyes peeled at all times on behalf of the entire tank gang. Allison Janney ("The Help") provided the voice for Peach, a perceptive matriarch who keeps a protective eye on Nemo.

GURGLE is a quick-to-panic royal gramma with a fear of germs. He's voiced by film and stage veteran Austin Pendleton ("Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps"). Despite his disdain for dirt, he's all drama when the dentist foils their messy escape plan with a new tank cleaner. "Curse you Aqua Scum!"

BUBBLES is a bubble-obsessed yellow tang. Stephen Root ("J. Edgar") lent his voice to the effervescent character. "Bubbles! Bubbles! Bubbles!"

DEB (& FLO) is a reflective blue-and-white humbug damsel fish who believes her reflection is her twin sister. Voiced by Vicki Lewis ("How I Met Your Mother"), Deb is always in touch with her "twin sister" Flo, who is always there when Deb needs her. But Deb secretly doubts Flo's mental capacity—"She's nuts."

JACQUES is a fastidious cleaner shrimp. Late Pixar storyman Joe Ranft ("Toy Story 2" as Wheezy, "A Bug's Life" as Heimlich the caterpillar) gave Jacques a debonair French accent. "Voila! He is clean."

NIGEL is a gossipy Australian pelican who's befriended the tank gang despite the potential conflict of interest. Academy Award®-winning actor Geoffrey Rush ("The King's Speech") gave a top-flight performance.

CORAL is Nemo's mom who meets an unfortunate fate. Elizabeth Perkins ("Weeds") gave voice to Coral.
CRUSH, the unflappable sea turtle voiced by director Andrew Stanton, is the ultimate laidback dad that throws Marlin for a loop. Crush's biggest fan is offspring Squirt who agrees with his dad that almost everything is awesome and righteous.

MR. RAY is a musical manta ray teacher. Pixar veteran Bob Peterson, one of the screenplay writers for the film, provided Mr. Ray's popular pipes, known for clever, rhyming songs like, "Seaweed is cool. Seaweed is fun. It makes its food from the rays of the sun."
BRUCE is a great white shark who desperately wants to stop eating fish. Voiced by Barry Humphries (Dame Edna Everage), Bruce holds meetings for he and his shark companions to share their problems and practice their motto—"Fish are friends, not food." Bruce's vegetarian efforts get derailed when a minor injury to Dory changes his friendly demeanor.

ANCHOR is a soft-hearted hammerhead shark who believes a group hug can help his shark pals' problems. Eric Bana ("The Time Traveler's Wife") lent his voice to Anchor.

CHUM is the hyperactive mako shark who "misplaces" his fish friend. Bruce Spence provided his voice.

Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International, "Finding Nemo" 3D will be released across the Philippines in Digital 3D™ for a limited theatrical engagement starting December 5.

This year, SMART's Project Visa garnered the highest mark among Excellence Awardees in its division with an aggressive communication program that empowered its customers to "live more" by enabling them to do simple and routine transactions while on the go. The campaign's success was evident as transactions through SMART's online and on-site Self Care channels rose by 8 points by the end of 2012's first quarter.

The re-launched website DZMM.com.ph of ABS-CBN's flagship AM radio station, meanwhile, strengthened DZMM's multiplatform news coverage and social media efforts, while also extending the reach of the station globally. With better graphics and new features, the site's page views jumped more than 100% from 4,891,757 to 9,885,310 according to Google Analytics.

Stratworks' End of the World Survival Kit for Axe Philippines, on the other hand, successfully introduced a new fragrance through a tongue and cheek campaign that went viral and achieved 200% of its target mileage. The La Sallian's Facebook page also impressed the judges as it has become the news and feature resource of DLSU faculty, alumni, students, and even the general Filipino public.

IABC Philippines President and IABC Regional Director for North Asia Ritzi Villarico Ronquillo said the organization, the first country chapter of the IABC outside the United States, will continue motivating and supporting communication professionals post-Quill.

"This is a plus of joining ABC and its programs. We are committed to the growth, communication career support and continued learning of members and participants in our programs. Through access to global learning resources and researches and the IABC network, we provide learning for career and professional advancement and growth all year round," she said, adding  "We invite all to join us as we celebrate our 30th anniversary next year. "

IABC Philippines Vice President and 2012 Awards Committee Chair Kane Errol Choa said this year's Quill Awards turned out to be one of the biggest ever, in participation with a 25 percent increase in the entries from last year.

"This year's turnout is a clear indication of the prestige and credibility of the Quill Awards. The country's top corporations were not only more aggressive in pursuing the seal of approval of the IABC through participating in the contest, but they also came up with generally better entries to meet the International Gold Quill standards," he explained.

The Gold Quill, deemed the highest honor in business communication, is awarded by the global IABC, a network of 15,500 communication professionals all over the world.
