Sisterakas - Starring Vice Ganda, Kris Aquino and Ai Ai delas Alas (MMFF)

For the first time, the three controversial 'queens' of today--Phenomenal Box-Office Goddess Vice Ganda, Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, and Comedy Concert Queen AiAi delas Alas--will star in one power comedy film titled "Sisterakas," Star Cinema and Viva Films' official entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). The newest comedy masterpiece of Direk Wenn Deramas "Sisterakas" will hit theaters nationwide beginning Christmas (December 25).

Unlike in real life where they are close friends, Vice, Kris and AiAi will play fierce rivals in "Sisterakas." In the story, Vice portray the role of Bernice, a super successful 'lord of the apparels industry' who is determined to bring misery to two of his closest competition--her hardworking half-sister Detty (AiAi) whose family refused to help Bernice's family when they were poor, and Roselle (Kris) the equally brilliant and talented yet eccentric business archnemesis.

In her quest to secure her throne as the queen of her industry, although it's against her will, Bernice will be forced to hire Detty as his 75th assistant. But things get out of hand and the world gets crazier when Detty suddenly becomes an employee--of all people--Roselle!

With the rivalry getting tougher and more intense than ever and severely affecting each other's intertwined lives, who among Bernice, Detty and Roselle will emerge victorious?

Meanwhile, after their sensational success in "Princess and I" and their first big screen team-up in "24/7 In Love" which is still showing on cinemas nationwide, two of the country's hottest teen stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla are now also part of "Sisterakas." In the film, Daniel will portray the role of Angelo, the godson of Bernice, while Kathryn will play as Kathy, the daughter of Detty and big sister of Cindy (Xyriel Manabat).

Don't miss the grandest gift of Star Cinema and Viva Films that will surely make the whole family merrier this Christmas--"Sisterakas," which will be shown on cinemas nationwide starting December 25.

SAM MILBY AND POKWANG SEARCH FOR THEIR HEART’S DESIRES IN “24/7 IN LOVE”

What is a 40-year-old virgin supposed to do when she finds out her fiancĂ© has been cheating on her? Well, find a new man who she can trust and love of course! But this isn't an easy task so who better to help her than her bff, who's gay and full of bright ideas?

Sam Milby and Pokwang bring to life the comic story of Charles and Virgie in Star Cinema's offering in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Magic, "24/7 In Love." All three are excited in their first Star Magic collaboration and they say their episode has a lot of firsts. "It has a lot of firsts I think, this is my first time doing a movie with Pokwang. Hindi naman first time na katrabaho ko siya, we did a 'Your Song' a long time ago but it's my first time being paired with her in a movie. Our story, yung story namin ni Pokwang very comedy talaga," Sam shares. "I know it was Pokwang's first time,  ako yung first kissing scene niya ever in a movie, so she's a virgin in the movie and she's a virgin in terms of kissing scene, so I'm happy that I was the first, hahaha!"

On the other hand, John Lapus, who's also part of the episode's cast, reveals that he jumped at the chance to work with the other Star Magic artists as this is a rare opportunity. "Hindi nako tumanggi, siyempre no, bilang bibihira na pagsama-samahin kaming mga Star Magic artists sa ganito kalaki na project. Sana at least once a year, merong Star Magic movie tulad nitong '24/ 7 In Love' kasi masaya na magkakasama kami and maski rin sa mga fans, 'di ba ang bongga na nakikita nilang magkakasama kami sa isang big screen, nandun kami and of course sa premiere night makikita nila kaming lahat dun."

Both Sam and John agree that "24/7 In Love" has a lot of lessons for the heart, which audiences from all ages can relate to. "I would say some of the most beautiful things in life come out in the most unexpected times," Sam admits. "Sa movie, marerealize mo na, one, age doesn't matter and two, walang pinipiling tao ang pag ibig kahit gwapo, hindi maganda, mayaman, mahirap. Kapag ang puso tinamaan ka talaga maiinlove ka talaga, kahit 24/7 pa," John adds.

Sam and Pokie's episode is directed by Frasco Mortiz. Learn about the highs and lows of love in "24/7 In Love" coming to cinemas nationwide on November 21 (Wednesday).

Also part of "24/7 In Love" are other Star Magic artists including John Lapus, Maricar Reyes, Jayson Gainza, Matt Evans, Nina Dolino, Joseph Marco, Jason Francisco, Helga Krapf, Andrei Felix, Seppi Borromeo, and Ian Rusell.

ESTEEMED PRODUCER TURNS DIRECTOR FOR “TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE”

"'Trouble with the Curve' is a story about how we deal with what life throws at us," describes Robert Lorenz ("Million Dollar Baby," "Mystic River"), Clint Eastwood's long-time producer who is now making his feature film directorial debut with the sports drama.

"It has characters in whom we can all see a bit of ourselves, reaching those moments in life when we are faced with re-evaluating priorities: the importance we put on our careers, our friendships and our family," Lorenz adds.

At the center of the story are a father and daughter whose lives have taken them in opposite directions. Even when they're together, they are worlds apart. But now, circumstances are forcing them to face their differences on common ground.

"In any family, even when things get tough, there are always ties that connect you," says the film's star and producer Clint Eastwood. "You just have to find a starting point to begin to close the gap."

The former assistant director, who segued into producing Eastwood's movies, says he always intended to direct. "It was just a matter of finding the right project at the right time," Lorenz states. "I felt the story had broad appeal, a lot of humor, with really great characters and interesting relationships, and I could easily visualize what I would do with it as I read it. The fact that it had a great role for Clint and he was interested in playing it was way more than I could have hoped for."

"Rob and I have worked together for almost 20 years now," Eastwood says. "We've talked about him directing over the years, so when he showed me this script, I thought it was a perfect opportunity. I had no doubt he'd do a terrific job, and he absolutely did."
Eastwood plays Gus Lobel, a man nearing the end of a long career who is too proud, or too stubborn, to reveal the secret that his eyes are no longer as sharp as his instincts. And while those closest to him aren't exactly sure what's wrong, they know that something is—something that, for his daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), is worth dropping everything for. Even if she's going to have to fight him every step of the way.

Lorenz adds, "In any other relationship, Mickey showing up to help, even if it's unexpected, would be a good thing. But Gus just can't see it that way."

Amy Adams says that there's universality to Mickey's feelings about her dad. "Daughters always want the approval of their fathers. So, naturally, Mickey wants Gus's attention; she wants him to be proud of her, but he, like many dads, has a hard time conveying that. Over time, she's built up a wall and things between them have become contentious, to say the least."
"These characters all come together at a time of significant change for each of them," Lorenz says. "They are all on a journey and have to discover something about themselves in order to move beyond the place they are in their lives and onto the next thing, whatever that may be."

Opening across the Philippines on Nov. 28, "Trouble with the Curve" is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

BEA ALONZO AND ZANJOE MARUDO, FROM FRIENDS TO LOVERS IN “24/7 IN LOVE”

Although real-life lovers Bea Alonzo and Zanjoe Marudo swore they won't work with each other in a project, both couldn't say no to the roles of Belle and Butch, respectively, in Star Cinema's offering in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Magic, "24/7 In Love."

"Siyempre umoo ako kaagad agad kasi star magic yuh  eh. Siyempre wala ka naman ibang gagawin kundi mag support sa pamilya mo 'di ba? So walang pagdadalawang isip akong umoo." Bea shared regarding her role in the talent management's first venture into producing a full-length film. "Na-excite ako na magiging part ako ng selebrasyon ng Star Magic. Nung pinresent na sakin istorya, iba iba ang naramdaman ko eh. Tapos natawa ako," Zanjoe added.

What made the project very interesting yet funny for Bea and Zanjoe is that they will be playing odd couple, Belle and Butch. Belle falls for her best friend Butch, but the problem is Butch is in love with …another man. "Ngayon lang ako nagportray ng role na ganito ka-persistent, ganito ka obsessed sa isang character din, at saka first time ko magkaroon ng character na nainlove sa isang becky!" Bea said as she laughingly described what becoming Belle was like.

Zanjoe on the other hand, had doubts in playing the fashion saavy Butch. "Mas magaling siguro kung gumawa ng role eh totoong gay 'di ba? Haha! pero siyempre nakaka-proud din na yung mga tao may tiwala sa 'yo. Unang-una, ako kaya din lumakas loob ko para gawin yun dahil may mga tao na naniniwala sa kakayahan ko."

Though Bea felt weird at first working with Zanjoe for the first time since they became an item, his gay character made her more at ease than having him play a more serious role. "It was weird acting with him, buti na lang malaking difference yung character niya sa totoong buhay, kasi kung hindi siguro I'd be feeling more awkward than how I'm feeling now." And Zanjoe agreed that it was indeed a challenge but fun working with his girlfriend. "Nakatulong kasi yung role ko medyo iba at least mas magiging komportable ako na gawin 'yun sa harapan niya dahil alam ko naman na hindi niya ako ija-judge at tutulungan niya pa ko, pwede ako humingi ng mga tips. Ayun ang saya nung shooting namin kasi si Bea yung katrabaho ko, mas komportable ako, na inaakala ko dati na mahirap umarte sa harapan niya."

Bea and Zanjoe's episode is directed by Mae Cruz and will be shown on November 21 in theatres nationwide.

FIRST IMAGE OF TOM CRUISE FOR “ALL YOU NEED IS KILL” ARRIVES

The first photo of Tom Cruise as Lt. Col. Bill Cage in the upcoming epic sci-fi thriller "All You Need is Kill" has been released by Warner Bros.

Also starring Emily Blunt, the film is currently being directed by Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity").

"All You Need is Kill" unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world's armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.
Opening across the Philippines on March 2014, "All You Need is Kill" will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

WHO’S WHO IN “FINDING NEMO” 3D

Marlin's journey along the Great Barrier Reef to rescue his son Nemo is filled with a host of colorful underwater characters. Optimistic but forgetful friend Dory joins him on the adventure, which introduces the sheltered Marlin to everything from a trio of sharks practicing a self-help program to a bale of hip sea turtles who know their way around the East Australian Current.
Meanwhile, Nemo—snatched from the reef by a diver—finds himself in an aquarium at a dentist's office, surrounded by a group of spectacular saltwater friends known as the tank gang.

These iconic characters and the roster of talented actors that helped make them so memorable are what make Disney Pixar's "Finding Nemo" a favorite among moviegoers. The film returns to the big screen—for the first time ever in thrilling Disney Digital 3D™—introducing a whole new generation to the stunning underwater adventure.

MARLIN is a fretful and slightly neurotic clownfish father voiced by the acclaimed actor/director/comedian Albert Brooks ("Drive"). He sports just three stripes ("One, two, three—that's all I have?") and for a clownfish, he's not as funny as one might expect. But he's fiercely protective of his son Nemo, wanting to do everything he can to make sure nothing ever happens to him.

Director Andrew Stanton said Brooks was a pro at maximizing his scenes. "Even when his character wasn't asked to be funny in a scene, he knew exactly how to play it for entertainment."

DORY is the eternally optimistic and forever forgetful blue tang brought to life by the Emmy®-winning comedian Ellen DeGeneres who was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance. "She brought a real kindness and gentleness to the part, along with rhythm and quirkiness," said Stanton of DeGeneres' performance.

NEMO is an adventurous young clownfish born with a bad fin, though his overly protective father calls it his "lucky fin." After being captured by a diver and dropped in an aquarium, Nemo meets an oddball tank gang who dub him "Shark Bait" and help him hatch a plan to escape back to the ocean to reunite with his dad.

Alexander Gould ("Weeds") was 9 years old when he lent his voice to Nemo, and he "brought a genuine, untainted quality to the voice of Nemo," said Stanton. "It's amazing how many kids have some preconceived notion of what a good actor should sound like. Alex sounded real and he totally understood direction. We were really lucky to find him."

GILL is the brooding moorish idol leader of the tank gang who takes newcomer Nemo under his fin. Willem Dafoe ("Platoon") gave voice to Gill, who—like Nemo—hails from the big blue. He'd give anything to go home.
BLOAT is a blowfish with a tendency for emotional as well as literal blow-ups. Voiced by Emmy® winner Brad Garrett ("Everybody Loves Raymond"), Bloat conducts the tribal ceremony officially dubbing Nemo as "Shark Bait" and welcoming him into the tank gang.
PEACH is an astute starfish who has her eyes peeled at all times on behalf of the entire tank gang. Allison Janney ("The Help") provided the voice for Peach, a perceptive matriarch who keeps a protective eye on Nemo.

GURGLE is a quick-to-panic royal gramma with a fear of germs. He's voiced by film and stage veteran Austin Pendleton ("Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps"). Despite his disdain for dirt, he's all drama when the dentist foils their messy escape plan with a new tank cleaner. "Curse you Aqua Scum!"

BUBBLES is a bubble-obsessed yellow tang. Stephen Root ("J. Edgar") lent his voice to the effervescent character. "Bubbles! Bubbles! Bubbles!"

DEB (& FLO) is a reflective blue-and-white humbug damsel fish who believes her reflection is her twin sister. Voiced by Vicki Lewis ("How I Met Your Mother"), Deb is always in touch with her "twin sister" Flo, who is always there when Deb needs her. But Deb secretly doubts Flo's mental capacity—"She's nuts."

JACQUES is a fastidious cleaner shrimp. Late Pixar storyman Joe Ranft ("Toy Story 2" as Wheezy, "A Bug's Life" as Heimlich the caterpillar) gave Jacques a debonair French accent. "Voila! He is clean."

NIGEL is a gossipy Australian pelican who's befriended the tank gang despite the potential conflict of interest. Academy Award®-winning actor Geoffrey Rush ("The King's Speech") gave a top-flight performance.

CORAL is Nemo's mom who meets an unfortunate fate. Elizabeth Perkins ("Weeds") gave voice to Coral.
CRUSH, the unflappable sea turtle voiced by director Andrew Stanton, is the ultimate laidback dad that throws Marlin for a loop. Crush's biggest fan is offspring Squirt who agrees with his dad that almost everything is awesome and righteous.

MR. RAY is a musical manta ray teacher. Pixar veteran Bob Peterson, one of the screenplay writers for the film, provided Mr. Ray's popular pipes, known for clever, rhyming songs like, "Seaweed is cool. Seaweed is fun. It makes its food from the rays of the sun."
BRUCE is a great white shark who desperately wants to stop eating fish. Voiced by Barry Humphries (Dame Edna Everage), Bruce holds meetings for he and his shark companions to share their problems and practice their motto—"Fish are friends, not food." Bruce's vegetarian efforts get derailed when a minor injury to Dory changes his friendly demeanor.

ANCHOR is a soft-hearted hammerhead shark who believes a group hug can help his shark pals' problems. Eric Bana ("The Time Traveler's Wife") lent his voice to Anchor.

CHUM is the hyperactive mako shark who "misplaces" his fish friend. Bruce Spence provided his voice.

Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International, "Finding Nemo" 3D will be released across the Philippines in Digital 3D™ for a limited theatrical engagement starting December 5.

SMART, ABS-CBN, STRATWORKS & DLSU TOP 2012 PHIL QUILL AWARDS’ DIVISIONS

SMART Communications Inc., ABS-CBN's DZMM.com.ph, and Stratworks Marketing Communications bagged the Top Awards in Communication Management, Communication Skills, and Communication Creative respectively, the highest honor bestowed on division winners at the 2012 Philippine Quill Awards during a black tie ceremony last night (Nov 12) at the Crown Plaza Galleria.

The Philippine Quill Awards is the annual program of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines that recognizes excellent use of communication in the projects and campaigns of the country's leading corporations and communication agencies.

This year's edition of the Quill Awards, which will be telecast on ANC (SkyCable ch 27) in January, proved to be more thrilling and memorable than ever with the launch of 1st Philippine Student Quill Awards and the introduction of three special awards for organizations that received the most Excellence Awards. Awardees, guests and the elite of business filled the ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Galleria to its maximum capacity.

Making history was De La Salle University's The Lasallian Facebook Page, which won the Top Award in 1st Philippine Student Quill Awards.

SMART Communications, meanwhile, won Company of the Year for bagging the most number of excellence awards, followed by the Manila Electric Company as first runner-up, and ABS-CBN Corporation as second runner-up.

Ogilvy Public Relations Manila bested other communications agencies to bring home the Agency of the Year, while Colegio San Juan de Letran bagged the School of the Year award.

For over a decade, the Philippine Quill Awards has been recognizing companies that have effectively and innovatively used communication in their programs and projects towards attaining their organization's goals.

Each year, the country's top companies, institutions and foundations in both private and public sectors, enter their best works in the Philippine Quill Awards' 27 categories that cover the various disciplines in business communications ranging from communication campaigns to communication skills and creative.

This year, SMART's Project Visa garnered the highest mark among Excellence Awardees in its division with an aggressive communication program that empowered its customers to "live more" by enabling them to do simple and routine transactions while on the go. The campaign's success was evident as transactions through SMART's online and on-site Self Care channels rose by 8 points by the end of 2012's first quarter.

The re-launched website DZMM.com.ph of ABS-CBN's flagship AM radio station, meanwhile, strengthened DZMM's multiplatform news coverage and social media efforts, while also extending the reach of the station globally. With better graphics and new features, the site's page views jumped more than 100% from 4,891,757 to 9,885,310 according to Google Analytics.

Stratworks' End of the World Survival Kit for Axe Philippines, on the other hand, successfully introduced a new fragrance through a tongue and cheek campaign that went viral and achieved 200% of its target mileage. The La Sallian's Facebook page also impressed the judges as it has become the news and feature resource of DLSU faculty, alumni, students, and even the general Filipino public.

IABC Philippines President and IABC Regional Director for North Asia Ritzi Villarico Ronquillo said the organization, the first country chapter of the IABC outside the United States, will continue motivating and supporting communication professionals post-Quill.

"This is a plus of joining ABC and its programs. We are committed to the growth, communication career support and continued learning of members and participants in our programs. Through access to global learning resources and researches and the IABC network, we provide learning for career and professional advancement and growth all year round," she said, adding  "We invite all to join us as we celebrate our 30th anniversary next year. "

IABC Philippines Vice President and 2012 Awards Committee Chair Kane Errol Choa said this year's Quill Awards turned out to be one of the biggest ever, in participation with a 25 percent increase in the entries from last year.

"This year's turnout is a clear indication of the prestige and credibility of the Quill Awards. The country's top corporations were not only more aggressive in pursuing the seal of approval of the IABC through participating in the contest, but they also came up with generally better entries to meet the International Gold Quill standards," he explained.

The Gold Quill, deemed the highest honor in business communication, is awarded by the global IABC, a network of 15,500 communication professionals all over the world.

The Philippine Quill Awards' gold sponsors include ABS-CBN Corporation, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, San Miguel Corporation, and SMART Communications Inc., silver sponsors included Flawless Aesthetic Clinic, Manila Water Company, and Security Bank Corporation; and bronze sponsors Banco De Oro, First Philippine Holdings Corporation, Lopez Holdings Corporation, Manila Electric Co., Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Pag-Ibig Fund, and Team Energy.

Media partners, meanwhile, were Adobo Magazine; ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel; Business Mirror, BusinessWorld, DZMM TeleRadyo, The Manila Bulletin, Manila Standard Today, Mediabanc, and The Philippine Star. Official tabulator was Reyes Tacandong and Co.

PIOLO PASCUAL, ZAIJAN JARANILLA AND XYRIEL MANABAT TEAM UP FOR “24/7 IN LOVE!”

"It's all about love being 24/7 in love and every minute, every day there's love in the air, kaniya-kaniyang storya ng pagmamahal." That is how Piolo Pascual describes the upcoming Star Cinema offering in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Magic, "24/7 In Love."

A true labor of love, Piolo says the movie is a celebration of Star Magic's growing family in its 20 years of producing home-grown talents for ABS-CBN. "It was timely because we're celebrating 20 years of Star Magic and kami bilang magkakapatid sa Star Magic, we wanna be able to have more fun and it's not always about work, so we look forward to this. It's anticipated because magkakasama kami, so nung pinresent siya sa akin I didn't think twice about accepting it."

Piolo shares the limelight in one of the episodes with child wonders Zaijan Jaranilla and Xyriel Manabat, whom he has worked with in the teleserye "Noah." Piolo is Pipoy, a 35-year-old mentally challenged man who lives in an orphanage and is happy spending his days with his best friend, 10-year-old Jomar. However, their friendship is shaken when new girl Ayie, played by Xyriel, enters the picture.

For Piolo, playing Pipoy is his most challenging role to date. "For me it's my most challenging role. Akalain mo ba naman na at my age gaganap ako na 7 years old at ka-love team ko si Xyriel and ka-love triangle ko si Zaijian 'di ba?" he reveals with a laugh. "I level with them. I level with Xyriel and Zaijian. Nakikipagkulitan ako sa set, mas madali kasi walang worries eh. Bata kasi, walang problema, so naisip ko habang nagshu-shoot ako, sabi ko, 'sarap pala maging bata kasi wala kang iniisip na problema, trabaho ka lang, acting ka lang.' Ganun lang pala kasimple."

Zaijan and Xyriel also find working with their Kuya Piolo a lot of fun. "Masaya pong ka-eksena si Kuya Piolo. Magaling, mabait, at saka pag sa eksena focused talaga," Zaijan says of his co-star. "Nagkukulitan po kami and inaasar ko po siya na siya si Budoy hehe," Xyriel shares, even adding that her character has a super crush on Piolo.

For the kids, their episode has a very simple message to the audience. "Maging mabuting magkaibigan, huwag magseselos saka laging magbibigayan."

Piolo, Zaijan and Xyriel's episode is directed by Dado Lumibao and will be shown on November 21 in theaters nationwide.

2nd PANEL OF 3-PART “OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL” POSTER LAUNCHED

Walt Disney Pictures has just unveiled a new poster from director Sam Raimi's "Oz The Great and Powerful." The artwork is the second panel of a three-part image and gives a first look at the magical creatures in Oz.

The fantasy adventure stars James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Kunis), Evanora (Weisz) and Glinda (Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" is produced by Joe Roth and written by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire. Grant Curtis, Philip Steuer and Palak Patel are serving as executive producers.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" opens in Philippine theaters on March 8, 2013.

GMA Network seals strong Q3 financial performance Reports P10.612 billion consolidated gross revenues for first 9 months

(Quezon City, Philippines - November 7, 2012) - Broadcast giant GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) reported strong financial results for the third quarter owing to increased advertising sales across its major revenue platforms.

Consolidated gross revenues for the third quarter of 2012 reached P3.822 billion reflecting a double-digit growth of 13 percent from the P3.384 billion recorded in 2011, while net income rose 9 percent to P573 million from P525 million in the previous year.

The increase in Q3 earnings was driven mainly by the substantial growth in airtime revenues, which exceeded last year's figure by 14 percent or P443 million to P3.537 billion.

This brings the Company's total gross revenues for the first nine months of 2012 to P10.612 billion, an increase of 5 percent or equivalent to at least half a billion year on year.

In the said period, GMA's airtime revenues grew 5 percent to P9.739 billion versus last year's P9.253 billion.

Parent company Channel 7 posted a 5 percent increase in airtime sales, while leading local news channel GMA News TV grew its advertising revenues by 24 percent.

Regional TV, on account of its aggressive expansion efforts, also improved its revenues from national and local sales by 24 percent. Radio, on the other hand, hiked up its earnings and surpassed last year's solid performance by 4 percent.

GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon said that the management is pleased with the Company's third quarter financial performance, and forecasts sustained revenue growth as political ads are expected to come on stream in the last quarter.

"Given the third quarter figures, we are optimistic that the fourth quarter will bring even better financial results as we expect political ads to further boost our earnings for the year," Gozon said.

Meanwhile, revenues from other sources for the nine-month period factored in an additional P873 million, 2 percent or P17 million higher than last year.

GMA New Media, Inc.'s recently formed techno-creative unit Digify, Inc. generatedmore than half of the net increase in this revenue category

The subscriber uptake of GMA's flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV, remained on the uptrend at 320,000 (or an estimated 2.1 million), 12 percent higher year on year. GLTV, on the other hand, registered 121,000 (or an estimated 1.1 million) subscribers, up 1 percent from last year. During the third quarter, GMA News TV International was launched in du Mobile (UAE), Maxxi (Malaysia mobile), and Digi (Malaysia mobile).

Subscription and advertising revenues of GMA International, however, slightly dipped by 2 percent to P705 million from the previous year's P719 million due to the appreciation of the Peso.

Meanwhile, GMA Worldwide, Inc., the Network's content acquisition and distribution subsidiary, generated USD 318,300 in the third quarter as it sold over 50 locally produced programs and movies to various countries namely USA, Kenya, Tanzania, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei, and Myanmar.

GMA Records also successfully launched the self-titled album of Julie Anne San Jose reaching Gold status 3 weeks after its August 15 release. The album also clinched the number 1 spot on iTunes Philippines hours after its August 10 release, and entered the charts in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

GMA managed its total operating expenses over the nine-month period to a low single-digit growth of only 4 percent or P258 million from same period last year. This is despite the increase in depreciation expense attuned with the roll-out of the state-of-the-art Media Asset Management System (MAMS) late last year as well as the launch of two multi-million originating stations in Ilocos and Naga middle of this year. Amortization of program rights likewise soared as a factor of programming mix. Aside from these, increased manpower headcount and payout of the one-time signing bonus for rank and file employees and appreciation bonus for confidential employees contributed to this year's rise in total operating costs.

Nonetheless, given the spike in the topline, the Company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the said period stood strongly at P3.040 billion, reaching a double-digit increase of 12 percent or P323 million year on year, while net income after tax settled at P1.587 billion or P7 million higher than last year.

GMA Network likewise maintained its overall advantage in NUTAM ratings in Q3 2012 with an average total day household audience share of 33.8 percent, ahead of ABS-CBN's 32.6 percent average by 1.2 points, and TV5's 15.1 percent by 18.7 points, according to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement data.

GMA remained unrivaled and led across all dayparts in the viewer-rich areas of Mega Manila and Urban Luzon, which account for 59.5 and 77 percent, respectively, of total urban television households in the entire country.

In Mega Manila, GMA garnered 38.7 percent in total day household audience shares, 12.2 points higher than ABS-CBN's 26.5 percent and 23.5 points ahead of TV5's 15.2 percent. Similarly, GMA continued to lead in Urban Luzon with an average of 37.7 percent up by 9.4 points from ABS-CBN's 28.3 percent and by 23.2 points from TV5's 14.5 percent.

GMA kept its lead in nationwide ratings in October (October 28 to 31 based on overnight data) with an average total day household audience share of 33.3 percent, higher by 0.2-point over ABS-CBN's 33.1 and by 17.4 points over TV5's 15.9 percent.

GMA likewise ruled in Mega Manila in the said month with 38.4 percent, 11.5 points ahead of ABS-CBN's 26.9 points and 22.3 points ahead of TV5's 16.1 percent. In Urban Luzon, GMA scored 37.4 percent, up 8.6 points from ABS-CBN's 28.8 points and up 22.0 points from TV5's 15.4 percent.

GMA subscribes to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement along with 22 other paying subscribers including another local major television network (TV5), Faulkner Media, CBN Asia, 15 advertising agencies, and 4 regional clients.

In Mega Manila, Nielsen has a sample size of 1,190 homes versus Kantar Media's 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a sample size of 2,000 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE “TROUBLES” THE GAME IN NEW SPORTS DRAMA

Newlywed music superstar and talented actor Justin Timberlake is back on the screen as baseball scout Johnny Flanagan who develops feelings for the daughter (Amy Adams) of a veteran scout (Clint Eastwood), in Warner Bros.' engaging drama "Trouble With The Curve."

In the film, Gus Lobel (Eastwood) is an aging baseball scout for the major league team, the Atlanta Braves. Long since widowed and living alone, Gus has embarked on a recruiting trip—maybe his last, considering his age and the changing business—to find a talented young player. He's joined by his daughter Mickey (Adams), a busy corporate lawyer. The two have maintained a mostly episodic and often strained relationship in the past, which secrets and lies have not helped to mend. As they reconnect and attempt to work out their personal issues, they cross paths and fates with Johnny (Timberlake), an upcoming rival scout, in a season that will be deeply cathartic for all of them.

"I think Johnny is the character who looks at situations most honestly, and thus is the catalyst in forcing Mickey and Gus to face their issues," director Robert Lorenz notes. "He is a warm, likeable, energetic, charming guy, all of which can be said of Justin as well. He and Amy are both such good actors and had so much fun with their scenes together that the relationship between their characters seemed to come naturally."

Timberlake says that the atmosphere Lorenz fostered on set enabled the actors to better define those relationships. "Amy and I were able to establish really good chemistry between the two characters, which I think is a testament to Rob. He was completely all-knowing of the story we were telling, and what was right and what was interesting about each character."

A former pro pitcher, nicknamed The Flame for his 100-mile-per-hour fastball, Johnny's career was cut short, and he has turned to scouting…for now. Timberlake reveals, "The first time we see him, he's on the side of the road, watching a bunch of kids in a pick-up game and speaking into a recorder, giving the play-by-play. It's an early hint that, now that his career as a player is over, he's honing his chops, hoping to get into broadcasting."

The actor drew on his own experiences "calling" games. "When I was a kid, I used to mimic the announcers, trying to replicate that rhythm and charisma they have. It's an audio-only performance so you really have to connect to your audience—the fans—because you're narrating a part of life that they're so passionate about."

It was Gus, in fact, who brought Johnny up to "the show" when he pitched for the Braves. Now, Gus and Johnny, who's scouting for the Red Sox, are both looking to add a coveted player to their respective teams. In spite of their presumed rivalry, Gus still acts as something of a mentor to the younger man, who even picks up a few pointers from Mickey.

Opening across the Philippines on Nov. 28, "Trouble With The Curve" is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

`SEA' “FINDING NEMO” FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 3D

Disney/Pixar's "Finding Nemo" returns to the big screen—for the first time ever in thrilling Disney Digital 3D™—introducing a whole new generation to the stunning underwater adventure.

Director Andrew Stanton, a two-time Oscar® winner for "Finding Nemo" and 2008's "WALL•E," says that the 3D version of the film is breathtaking—literally. "Watching the first few scenes from 'Finding Nemo' in 3D was like I'd never seen a 3D movie before," says Stanton. "It took my breath away. It felt like I was more underwater. It makes the scary moments scarier. It makes the beautiful moments more beautiful. It really drops you deeper into the story. It just amplifies everything."

Teeming with memorable comedic characters and heartfelt emotion, "Finding Nemo" follows the momentous journey of an overprotective clownfish named Marlin and his young son Nemo––who become separated when Nemo is unexpectedly taken far from his ocean home in the Great Barrier Reef to a fish tank in a dentist's office. Buoyed by the companionship of Dory, a friendly-but-forgetful blue tang, Marlin embarks on a dangerous trek and finds himself the unlikely hero of an epic journey to rescue his son––who hatches a few daring plans of his own to return safely home.

"Finding Nemo" won the 2003 Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature; the film was nominated for three additional Oscars (Best Original Screenplay; Best Original Score; Best Sound Editing). It was also nominated for a Golden Globe® Award for Best Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical. In 2008, the American Film Institute named "Finding Nemo" among the top 10 greatest animated films ever made. At the time of its release, "Finding Nemo" was the highest grossing G-rated movie of all time. It remains the fifth highest grossing animated film worldwide.

"'Finding Nemo' was an amazing film to work on and it exceeded our expectations at every step of the process," says producer Graham Walters. "Throughout the production, people on the crew would walk into the dailies and be blown away by what they were seeing."

With an Oscar®-nominated screenplay by Stanton, Bob Peterson and David Reynolds, "Finding Nemo" is co-directed by Lee Unkrich, who went on to direct the Oscar® -winning "Toy Story 3." John Lasseter is the executive producer. Award-winning composer Thomas Newman ("The Help," "WALL•E") contributed an exciting and sophisticated score that earned him an Oscar® nomination, among other nominations and awards.

"'Finding Nemo' is the perfect movie in 3D," says Lasseter, who creatively oversees all films and associated projects from Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios. "We didn't realize it when we made it originally. Every scene has what we call particulate matter in the water to give it a sense of place. When you see that in 3D, it's unbelievable. There's so much depth. From the layers and layers of coral reef to the rows of teeth in Bruce the shark's mouth, it's absolutely amazing."

Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Internationl, "Finding Nemo" will be released across the Philippines in Digital 3D™ for a limited theatrical engagement starting December 5.
