Archer Gabriel Luis Moreno claims Olympic gold in Nanjing 2014 a day before National Heroes Day

It was an exciting Sunday afternoon for Philippine sports as Gabriel Luis Moreno gave his best performance in archery to win the gold medal in the Mixed International Team Event at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.

TV5 aired the live coverage of the historic event yesterday before the broadcast of the PBA Rookie Draft.

Moreno was working in tandem with Chinese archer Li Jiaman against the tandem of Muhammad Zoklepeli of Malaysia and Cynthia Freywald. Moreno and Li swept the three sets in the gold medal round (38-37, 38-35, 37-33) with the Moreno making the winning hit to claim the Philippine's first Olympic gold.

Gabriel Luis Moreno, 16 years old, is the grandchild of actor and television host German "Kuya Germs" Moreno. He was also one of the early entries to the Youth Olympic Games.

TV5 will replay Moreno's events today starting at 1:30pm.

TV5, the official Philippine Olympic network, has been giving the comprehensive coverage of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games that started last August 16. The Kapatid network also brought the coverage of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games that featured figure skater Michael Martinez capturing the hearts of Filipinos.
